Myofascial release is a form of massage therapy for myofascial pain syndrome, a chronic pain that caused tightness in muscle tissue, and sensitivty. Myo meaning muscle. Fascia meaning bond.
Myofascial release (MFR) is useful for treating musculaskeletal immobility, restrictions in muscle tissues. The pain can originate in specific areas, then trigger to other parts of the body (trigger point). The massage therapist uses a variety of techniques like stretching, mobilisation, rolling the skin, deep tissue focusing on reducing chronic pain to ease tension and by massaging the areas that feel rigid, stiff and tight it can improve blood flow, oxygen, nutrients and lymphatic circulation.
Sometimes if the body experience sphysical or emotional trauma, like an accident, surgery, scar tissue, holding lots of tension, then the fascia will lose its pliability and can become hard, dehydrated and restricted in mobility. It responds to stress through the whole body.
